Operation I.D.E.A.

Presented by Corporal Charles Jones
Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Operation I.D.E.A. encompasses three basic as well as easily applicable methods of Police Work.

1. Inform: Attending community meetings to inform the citizens in the community of what we as Law Enforcement expects can do in the form of help with community policing. To give the citizens the information they need in order to assist law enforcement with policing the communities, including what to look for in the form of criminal activity as well as simple, yet effective steps to take in order to deter criminal activity within their own communities.

2. Deter: Providing a greater police presence within the communities to deter criminal activity as well as pin point problem areas within the effected communities. These methods of deterrent would include vehicular patrols within the community as well as foot patrols and covert operations as need be.

3. Enforce by Action: Targeting specific problem areas within the communities and enforcing laws that may not normally be enforced, e.g. loitering, under age smoking, in an attempt to gain further information in the form of F.I.R's ( Field Interview Reports) to obtain information on possible subjects involved in criminal activity.

In closing, by including citizens in the communities in our law enforcement efforts, not only do we extend our capabilities of law enforcement we gain the trust of the residents in the communities and in turn create safer communities.
